Solo show "Matters Beyond Words" on display at St. Anne’s Lutheran Church of Babite

From 7 May to 2 August this year, Aigars Bikše's solo exhibition "Matters Beyond Words" is on display at the St. Anne's Lutheran Church in Babīte region, Latvia.

“This exhibition is about things that cannot always be expressed in words. It invites us to turn away from the visible world and face what is tender and still within. Matters Beyond Words is a dialogue with the viewer, with the space, and with the times.

The exhibition brings together works created from 2022 to the present and reflects Aigars Bikše’s artistic contemplations of recent years. In these works, the artist explores the boundaries of faith, belief, and the human capacity to assign meaning. The exhibition is not only a significant stage in his creative practice but also a retrospective glance at Aigars Bikše’s 35-year-long artistic journey within the Latvian and international art scene.

At the core of the exhibition lies a question of meaning: how is it formed, to whom does it belong, and how is this process influenced by belief—personal or collective? In Aigars Bikše’s work, the symbol balances between the known and the inexplicable. Here, the viewer is not a passive observer but an active co-creator who assigns meanings, constructs narratives, and activates the space. Visitors are not shielded from ambiguity—on the contrary, they enter a labyrinth of meanings where, instead of a single correct interpretation, there are only intuitive clues and zones of silence that call for inner response.

The church setting allows the artworks to reveal themselves with new intensity – rhythm, stillness, and tension merge into a unified experience.
